Week Without Driving · Las Vegas · October 1 – 8, 2026

More than 1 in 3 people in the U.S. don’t drive. For one week, see Las Vegas the way they do.

Part of the national Week Without Driving, organized by America Walks.

Take at least one trip without a car between October 1 – 8. Post about it. Tag us. That is the whole challenge, and it is open to anyone in the Valley.

Car dependency is easy to miss from the driver’s seat.

Kids too young for a license. Neighbors who can’t afford a car. People whose disability keeps them out of the driver’s seat. Seniors who gave up the keys. In Las Vegas, that means a lot of people getting across a city built for cars on foot, on a bike, or on a bus that comes every half hour.

Week Without Driving asks everyone else to try it. Not to suffer, and not to prove a point about cars, but to see what the system asks of the people who ride it every day. A bus that comes every half hour. A sidewalk that ends at a wall. A shopping center you can see but can’t safely walk to.

Your post is the point. The more people see what it takes to get around the Valley without a car, the harder it is for anyone to say the system works fine.

How to take the challenge.

Four steps. No signup form. The challenge starts the moment you leave your car parked.

  1. Step 1: Pick a trip you would normally drive.

Work, school, groceries, a friend’s place, a night out. One trip is enough. Going the whole week without a car is even better.

  2. Step 2: Get there another way.

Ride the bus, walk, bike, scoot, or roll. Leave your own car parked. If you have never taken the bus in Las Vegas, this is the week to try.

  3. Step 3: Post about it and tag us.

Share a story, reel, or post about how it went. Tag @lasvegasfortransit and use #WeekWithoutDriving so we can find it and share it.

  4. Step 4: Earn an entry in the giveaway.

Every day you post counts as one entry, up to 8. We draw the winner after the week ends.

The giveaway.

Every day you post about a trip without driving and tag us, you get one entry. Post all 8 days and you have 8 entries. We draw one winner after the week ends.

  • One-month RTC bus pass

Ride anywhere in the Valley for a month, on us.

  • LVBT sticker pack

For your laptop, water bottle, or bike.

How entries work

  • A post counts when it is about a trip you took without driving during October 1 – 8 and it tags @lasvegasfortransit.
  • One entry per person per day, up to 8 entries.
  • Stories count. If your account is private, send the story to us directly so we can log it.
  • We draw the winner in the week after the challenge ends and contact them on Instagram.
  • You need to be able to pick up or use the prize in the Las Vegas Valley.

Never taken the bus here? Start with this.

Most people who drive in Las Vegas have never ridden an RTC bus. That is fine. The challenge is the trip, not being an expert.

Plan the trip before you leave.

Use the RTC trip planner or Google Maps transit directions. Check the bus after the one you want, too, so you know your backup.

Open the RTC trip planner →

Give yourself more time than you think.

Many routes run every 30 minutes or less often. Missing a bus by one minute can mean a long wait in the sun. That wait is part of the story. Post about it.

Pay with the rideRTC app or at the stop.

Buy a pass in the app before you board so you are not fumbling for cash. Ticket vending machines are at some stations and transit centers.

Notice what makes the trip hard.

A missing sidewalk, a stop with no shade, a crossing that takes three light cycles. Those details are exactly what we want people to see.

Resources.

Week Without Driving is a national campaign, and most of what you need already exists. Start with the campaign’s own material, then use ours for the Las Vegas specifics.

For organizations

Bring your organization.

Agencies, city and county departments, schools, employers, and nonprofits are all welcome. Three ways to take part, from a single post to a group ride.

Take the challenge as a team

Ask your staff, members, or volunteers to take one trip without driving during the week and post about it with your organization tagged alongside ours.

Share it with your audience

One post from your account before the week starts is the single most useful thing a partner can do. The national Resource Center below has toolkits and templates you can use as they are.

Co-host a ride

Lead a group bus ride, a walk, or a lunch-hour trip from your office during the week. We will help plan the route and cover it on our channels.

Partner with us

We reply to every partner email ourselves, usually within a couple of days.

After the week.

Your trip does not disappear after a day.

Your post can make the recap

We put together a short video of the week from what participants share. Tag us and yours is in the running.

We publish what the week showed

A written recap of what people found, what surprised them, and what it says about getting around the Valley.

The record stays public

The recap and the highlights from the week stay up here after the challenge ends.

Leave the keys. Take the trip. Tell us how it went.

October 1 – 8. One trip counts. Tag @lasvegasfortransit and use #WeekWithoutDriving.

The bus that comes every half hour is not an inconvenience for a week. For the people who ride it every day, it is the schedule.
